Doing your PhD at the University of Cologne

The University of Cologne is one of the largest universities in Germany. It plays a crucial role in the training of future researchers and academic staff. The university has established 31 graduate schools and offers a broad range of programmes in order to support the junior researchers.

There are several ways for carrying out a PhD  project in the field of linguistics. The CCLS has launched a new doctoral subject Linguistik (PhD) in 2016, following the positive experience with the interdisciplinary study programme M.A. Linguistik. This doctoral subject is well-suited for projects which do not fit the traditional divisions of scientific fields at a university. As with all PhD programmes in Cologne, the PhD can be conducted fully in English. Please consult your supervisor first on this matter.

In addition, it is possible to graduate in one of the 21 language-related subjects offered at our faculty.
