Profile Writing Acquisition
What is the field of study about?
The learning of the written language in reading and writing and the writing of entire, possibly very complex texts based on it is generally regarded as the domain of the school. At the same time, the process of acquiring writing skills as well as the phenomena of writing competence development are socially highly relevant fields of action outside of school. Think, for example, of adult literacy and education or writing in and for different professional contexts: from training occupations, e.g. journalistic writing, to academic or scientific writing.
Accordingly, the focus of Writing Acquisition makes it possible to specialise in aspects of acquisition (writing language acquisition, writing development) and/or aspects of mediation (concepts of writing mediation, writing didactics) on the basis of specialist scientific foundations (graphematics, text linguistics, writing research) and to research them using appropriate research methods (e.g. writing process and writing product analyses, intervention studies, case studies, experimental designs).
Where is writing acquisition research conducted in Cologne?

Usually the contents of the present profile are to a certain extent subjects of a teacher training course in the subject German. However, the study of this focus should not qualify you directly for the teaching profession, but prepares you for research and mediation contexts outside of school, such as in the fields of adult education and professional writing.
