Das Cologne Center of Language Sciences - Kölner Zentrum Sprachwissenschaften (CCLS) ist ein institutsübergreifendes Lehr- und Forschungszentrum der Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität zu Köln. Es fungiert als Schnittstelle aller linguistisch arbeitenden Einrichtungen der Universität. Mit seinen über 230 Mitgliedern kommt dem CCLS eine gewichtige Stimme in der universitären Landschaft zu und bietet ihnen den nötigen Raum, um gemeinsame Ideen und Visionen zu entwickeln. Auch durch den engen Kontakt zu anderen Einrichtungen innerhalb und außerhalb der Universität profitieren die Kölner Sprachwissenschaften von der Arbeit des CCLS.
Insbesondere die Unterstützung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses und die Unterstützung und Förderung der Lehre sind dem Zentrum ein besonderes Anliegen. So wurden durch das CCLS ein eigenes Masterprogramm (mit zwei Studienrichtungen) und ein neues Promotionsfach initiiert und gemeinsam mit dem SFB 1252 Prominence in Language Fördermöglichkeiten für Studierende und NachwuchswissenschaftlerInnen geschaffen.
Durch seine Aktivitäten macht das Cologne Center of Language Sciences (CCLS) die Linguistik an der Kölner Universität und außerhalb sichtbar und attraktiv.

Sinn und Bedeutung 26 will be hosted by the Institute of German Language and Literature I and the Cologne Center of Language Sciences at the University of Cologne on 8-10 September 2021, and will either take place in a hybrid format or purely online.

Formal Diachronic Semantics (FoDS) is a venue dedicated to work in semantic change carried out within the paradigm of formal semantics/pragmatics. The 6th FoDS will be hosted by the Institute for German Language and Literature I – Linguistics at the University of Cologne, on September 6-7 2021.

Deep Learning for Language Analysis
Virtual summer school | Aug 30 – Sep 3, 2021
The summer school addresses students and doctoral candidates from Linguistics and Digital Humanities, as well as other fields that are involved with the application of machine learning techniques. Participants can choose between two alternative tracks:
- Deep Learning with Audio & Speech Data, given by Paul Wallbott (Fraunhofer IAIS)
- Text Analysis with Deep Learning, given by Nils Reiter (UoC)
